National Geographic Channel's 'Brilliant Mind'
Ravikiran was the only Indian musician selected by The National Geographic Channel in their program featuring geniuses from various parts of the world.
Release of Navavaranams and Saptaratnas of Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi and Perfecting Carnatic Music I - 3rd Edition
The book featuring the lyrics and notations of Venkata Kavi's Kamakshi Navavaranams and Saptaratnas was released on Dec 8th at Nadabrahmam Festival by mrdangam maestro, Padmabhooshan Umayalpuram Sivaraman. The book features Forewords by Mr Murali, Managing Director of The Hindu and President of The Music Academy and Sangita Kalanidhi Shri T K Govinda Rao. This book has already been very well received by the music community.
Students and music lovers will also be happy to know that an improved Perfecting Carnatic Music I - 3rd Edition has just hit the stands. The book has been augmented by the inclusion of a few Tamil Geetams and also a couple of short but exquisite Tiruppugazhs specially tuned for primary level students by Ravikiran.

Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi - Life and Contributions released - Aug 2007
Ravikiran's book, "Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi - Life and Contributions" was recently released in Chennai, India on August 18, 2007 by Mr Murali, Managing Director of The Hindu and President of The Music Academy. Distinguished dancer Ms Alarmel Valli received the first copy while Dr Mrs Y G Parthasarathy and Mr Krishnaswami, President, Federation of Sabhas were the guests of honour.
The book is a product of over 10 years of study by Ravikiran, whose own repertoire of the composer's works exceeds 100 pieces. Besides, he has studied the lyrics of nearly 400 compositions. The book brings forth several new perspectives about the high state of evolution of Carnatic music, even in the pre-Trinity era, with over 230 musical illustrations/references.
The excellent Forewords by Sangita Kalanidhis Dr Balamuralikrishna, Madurai Shri T N Seshagopalan and Umayalpuram Sivaraman as well as noted musician-musicologist Prof S R Janakiraman make this book a collector's dream.
Awards and Accolades
Ravikiran was one of four Carnatic musicians selected for the prestigeous Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2006, making him (one of) the youngest to receive this at 39. The Award was presented by the President of India, Mr Kalam, at Kamani Auditorium in New Delhi on March 1, 2007 at 11.45 am and followed by a short recital by Ravikiran.
Ravikiran also became one of the first musicians to be honoured by the City of Houston, in April 2007.
Shakti Extratainment, India's First IPTV Culture Channel launched
Ravikiran's pioneering efforts have taken a new direction with the launch of Shakti Extratainment, one of India's first IPTV channels. The channel was launched in Cleveland, San Jose, Houston and several other cities and is available to viewers in the USA through a revolutionary Set Top Box. The launch was also announced in Chennai during the channel's Bani Festival in July 2007 with N Ram, Editor in Chief, The Hindu, movie director Dr K Balachander, Murali of Krishna Sweets and others participating. The channel has various categories that include Carnatic & Hindustani music, various dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kuchipidi, Kathak, educational programs on arts, culture, languages and other subjects, popular entertainment like movies and serials, besides a special section to promote the talents and accomplishments of the global and resident Indian communities.
